Synopsis
Again in 1066 England is facing a crisis. Harold chosen by the Earls to take over after the death of Edward the Confessor finds himself King of a land in turmoil. His throne is coveted by two others, one a king, Hadrada from Scandinavia will attack in the north of England, the other a Duke, William of Normandy will invade in the south near Hastings, both within days of each other.
Both will find a formidable English force standing in their way. Intrigue, murder, treachery, Papal conspiracy, greed and manipulation of the throne from behind the scene add up to one tempestuous week in English history.
To understand these events and all the characters we must go back in time to 1036 and the death of legendary King Canute and the squabble over which one of his boorish sons will become king.
Thirty years of double cross and positioning, the English Earls line up on different sides in the final confrontation over England. 1066 was the last time England was invaded by a foreign power.
