Manila is a city of stark contrasts; abject poverty and obscene opulence live side by side. Death and disease stalk the underclasses whilst the rich and elite enjoy their privileged positions.

Violence is of a very personal nature, erupting at a moments notice fuelled by jealousy, greed and desperation.
A country where those who are lucky enough to have a relative working aboard sending money back, do not have to deal with the everyday struggle to survive.

Yet Renato a young man, severely handicapped from birth works six days a week selling Sweepstake tickets in MacDonald’s in order to help his family put his siblings through school.

This is Renato's story.

Physical attributes are not necessarily key to identifying gender. In Bangkok as in many other Asian countries there are a large number of people born as men but feel that they are women. In their minds they are in all ways but one a woman.
Bangkok has become the leading centre in the world for sex change operations. This documentary examines the procedure and the reasons why so many Thai men and men of other nationalities end up in Bangkok becoming women.

Today 60% of male born children are circumcised in US hospitals every year. There is no medical benefit from this procedure and research has shown that it can cause medical and psychological problems later in life.

Throughout the Muslim and Jewish world circumcision is a matter of faith. In South Korea and the Philippines it is also practiced. The Philippines for no other reason than a 'rite of passage' into adulthood. Yet numerous children end up every year in hospital undergoing corrective surgery.

Women are forcibly circumcised in many African and Middle Eastern countries. Many die from the procedure; many have to live with the appalling after effects of this evil procedure.

This documentary is about the many people around the world from different cultures, religions and ethnic groups that are fighting to stop this procedure.
Americans, Europeans, Jews, Muslims and Christians are all fighting to stop this procedure on under aged children.

Battle of Manila

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. They attacked the Philippines the next day and soon reached the outskirts of Manila.

The city of Manila was declared an ‘Open City’ by General MacArthur in order to spare human suffering and life. But the advancing Japanese army paid no heed.

General MacArthur retreated to the island of Corregidor were he held out for several weeks He was ordered by President Roosevelt to escape to Australia and mount an offensive to retake the Pacific region. General Wainwright held a few weeks longer before surrendering.

MacArthur began his steady advance across the Pacific, removing Japanese forces island by island until he got to the Philippines. After the Leyte landings and the Battle of Leyte Gulf MacArthur pressed onto to Manila.

The Battle of Manila was the most destructive attack on a city other than Dresden. Street to street fighting was ferocious and bloody.
